Tour Description

We will make the scenic drive to a txakoli (our local white wine) vineyard nestled in the picturesque green hills overlooking the Bay of Biscay. This boutique winery has been in the same family for 3 generations, and offers a very local “off the beaten path” experience. This is one of our favorite tours to offer our clients as it offers such a unique and authentic experience.

Txakoli Winery

At the winery, you will be taken on a guided tour that lasts approximately 1 hour. The tour offers a thorough explanation of the entire wine making process, tastings, and light snack of local tuna, anchovies, olive oil and fresh bread. Here you will also learn the historical significance of this local Basque wine, the unique cultivation techniques, and the role the wine has played in the Basque culture over the centuries.

Getaria

After our winery tour, we will head down to the beautiful coastal village of Getaria for a tour and lunch (not included). During our stroll through the medieval streets you will learn about the famous Basque sailor Juan Sebastian Elcano, fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga, and others who made the town famous.

The Best Grilled Seafood

For lunch, we will secure reservations for your at one of our favorite restaurants in the town overlooking the port and beautiful Atlantic Ocean. This small town is considered one of the best places in the world to eat seafood. The restaurants located here are consistently rated as some of the absolute best grilled fish/seafood in the world!

GeoPark of Zumaia

We will then make the short drive to the quaint coastal village of Zumaia, with its famous rock formations containing fossils that date back some 100 million years. Here you will find some of the most breathtaking vistas in the entire Basque Country. We can also go for a short trek if you would like.

Spent a great evening enjoying a fantastic selection of pintxos and drinks chosen by Lei, our very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. The venues were all nice and reasonably varied. I would never have known to order most of the pintxos which Lei selected and it was great to try such different options. We left nicely full and very happy with our tour selection. Tour guide Leire (she said we could call her Lei), was super friendly, informative, engaging and helpful. There were 10 people on our English-speaking tour from a variety of countries, and it was fun to get to know everyone. The pintxos and wines were delicious, and it felt like we had the perfect amount of both. I felt pleasantly full at the end and not too intoxicated (which I was afraid of after having wine at every stop lol). Lei was also very accommodating of food allergies and preferences that myself and other members had. Great tour and tour guide. Highly recommend!

Rioja Valley winery tour from Bilbao: We (group of three couples) had an absolutely fantastic day with Zach as our driver and amazingly knowledgeable tour guide. Zach took us from the Getxo cruise port to visit wineries in Rioja Valley and back to our ship in plenty of time. Communication for scheduling and questions prior to the tour date was always timely and helpful. The wineries we visited were beautiful and our entire day was very personalized and enjoyable. Wonderful! Zach showed up on time, which already felt like a small miracle. He knew a lot but did not act like a know-it-all. He smiled. He waited for us, which mattered, as our group moved like a geriatric ward The van was brilliantly clean. No odd smells. Seats soft enough that no one complained, which says a lot. The walk to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe felt like a scene from a film, but with more stairs and less grace on my part. Worth every step. Then the wine. Good wine.  Verified  Perfect first night in Bilbao
First night in Bilbao and a great food tour with Irene. Explored the old town via 5 pinxtos bars with fabulous food and wine selections.
