A La Rioja tour of the wine country is an absolute necessity when visiting the Basque Country. This is one of the most significant wine producing regions in Spain and Europe in general. La Rioja is divided between the Basque Country and the La Rioja province of Spain. Normally, on our La Rioja wine tours we take our clients to the Rioja Alavesa, which is part of the Basque Country. Such wineries as Marques de Riscal, Eguren Ugarte, and Muga are some of more traditional bodegas we visit for our first stop. After a visit to one of these larger wineries we head to medieval city of LaGuardia, which dates back to the 10th century as fortified village protecting the southern flank of the Kingdom of Navarra. There are only a few wineries lying underneath the city in the caves. Visiting a winery in the ancient tunnels and caves in LaGuardia is always a client favorite, and unique to the world!
