Gernika

Our first stop on this private tour will be in the historic town of Gernika. This city holds immense political importance for the Basque people. Local politicians have made important national decisions here for nearly 1000 years. Gernika also has historical significance as the sight of a horrific aerial bombing in 1937. This day in history was the inspiration for Pablo Picasso’s famous Guernica painting, which portrays this infamous day.

Boutique Txakoli Winery

After Gernika, we will make our way to a beautiful Txakoli (Basque white wine) winery in the hills of Bizkaia. The denomination of origen of Bizkaiko Txakolin groups together the producers of txakoli in the province of Bizkaia who make their txakolis under the parameters established by the managing body of the appellation of origin. The vineyards are present throughout the entire geography of Bizkaia. Plantations can be found both in areas very close to the coastline, as in the interior valleys, or on the slopes of medium-altitude mountains, below 400m. The stunning landscape of green hills, deep blue ocean and rural towns is sure to impress on this unique tour!

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

Our third stop on this private tour will be a "locals only" secret viewing point of this marvelous site on the Basque coast. This unique island located just off the Basque coastline along the Bay of Biscay and connected to mainland by a man-made stone bridge. At the highest point of the island there is a small church. The island also has an fascinating history that we will explain on your tour! We will not make the whole walk to the summit of the island and back, as it requires a timeframe of at least 2 hours. We have another tour for hiking to the top of Gaztelugatxe if you would like.
